Week 67, ‘Guidance and Miracles!’

October 26, 2015

Hola familia! Sounds like you guys have lots of good stuff going on! I have a gift for KK so I need to mail it today. So we did an awesome Pday activity last Monday. All the missionaries in Laredo South Zone painted shirts and we played soccer against Laredo North Zone. Twas supa fun! And we saw lots of miracles this week. There were 50 PEOPLE IN CHURCH!!! That’s a record for Zapata!! It was so cool to see the chapel almost all the way full! We almost did have enough bread and water for sacrament! And a lot of really cool investigators and less active members came.

This week the zone leaders challenged Elder Randall and I to hit all our goals for the week by Saturday night, so we worked super hard and prayed for guidance and miracles, and we ended up exceeding all of our goals and meeting so many cool people! I have gained a strong testimony about the importance of sincere, intense, specific, humble prayer the last few weeks. I’ve been improving my prayers a lot, praying with more energy and love, and praying about specific people, plans and situations. As I’ve done that I have received so much revelation and I’ve received so much more guidance from Heavenly Father! Every night I keep my planner with me while a pray and I write down any revelation that I receive, so then the next day I apply that revelation to our plans. I’ve seen so much success come from it! Prayer is awesome!!

We are planning to baptize two boys named Armando and Ralph this Sunday. They are really awesome! And their grandma, Rosa should be getting baptized in a few weeks, shes just trying to quit smoking, and she is doing very well. Elder Randall and I have been doing really well, we’re having a lot of fun together. Oh also a member of the Quorum of the Seventy, Elder Dube, came and spoke to us in Chorpus Christi! He’s from Africa, so his accent is awesome. Well, I love you mi familia! #YOLO

Week 66, ‘Heavenly Father’s Got My Back!’

I cant believe kk’s 14! That’s so crazy!! I got her a present today and I will send her a birthday email. I’m glad ur getting better Mama! U go girl! Those notes are awesome dad, those are definitely all tests that we go through as missionaries. It’s so cool how the mission isn’t about us at all, but we are changed by our missions probly more than anyone that we serve! Elder Randal and I had a bit of a rough week, but we’re doing good today. Elder Johnson came to Zapata and worked with me on Saturday! It was so awesome! I love that guy so much! He’s just such an awesome role model for me. Heavenly Father’s got my back! I love you guys!

Week 65 ‘Interviews w/ President Maluenda’

Hola mis padres y mi hermana y mi cunado! Glad to hear life is going well. Ur talk is really cool Dad! I haven’t read all the way through the notes yet but I want to. Ur such a spiritual stud! Mama, great job for going to the store haha! I cant believe you had a bridal shower at our house, ur so awesome! Ka-baam! And Holly I hope ur feeling better!

We had a good week. We had a great dinner with Brother Viegas (see pic above)! He’s totes hilar! Some new senior missionaries came in and they are really cool so I’m excited to get to know them more. The Strongs will leave in November, so this couple came to replace them.

We had interviews with President Maluenda this week, it was super awesome. I swear that guys a wizard. He looks at me and reads my soul. We went up to Laredo and got together with all the other missionaries in our zone and did the interviews there. My interviews with President are always super short, just a few minutes. I hardly even say anything. He asks me if I’m worthy to attend the temple, and how u guys are doing, and then he’ll either just start teaching me something, or ask if i have any questions, or just give me a bunch of scriptures to read. It’s always exactly what I need, it’s super cool.

Elder Johnson is an AP now (Assistant to the President) so I got to see him at interviews. He’s doing great, I miss that fool. I love you my peeps!

Week 64 ‘Another Laketism!’

Hola mi family! Glad to hear things are going pretty well for everyone! It’s been a good week. Elder Herrin and Puga baptized a lady named Rosalba! ‘Laketisms’ (baptisms in the lake) are so cool! Tambien, General Conference was super good. We watched it in our little tiny church. To answer dad’s questions, I’m still District Leader. My district is me and Elder Randall, and Elders Herrin and Puga. We live together, and we’re about an hour away from everyone else in our zone. We’re in the middle of nowhere! There’s a little bit more English than Spanish spoken here, but there’s a lot more Spanish here than there was in Harlingen so I’m excited to be practicing again! I really like it here. It’s way different than any other place I’ve been in the mission! If you send me anything just send it directly here cuz if you send it to the mission office it will take forever to get to me. I love you my peeps!

Week 63 ‘Transferred to Zapata!’

Hi mis padres! I got transferred! I’m now in a little town called Zapata. I was pumped when I found out I was coming here cuz this is where Elder Johnson served right before I was his comp! So I’ve heard a lot about this place. It’s pretty ghetto and we have a tiny little church group. Usually around 20 people come. We are working to get more Melchisedek Priesthood holders here so we can become a Branch. Two senior missionary couples run our church group, and they live right next to us so we work with them all the time. They are awesome! Yesterday my comp Elder Randall baptized a lady named Raquel in a lake!!! It was so cool. I’ll send you pics.
